South Korea's Medical equipment output tops 7

South Korea's output of medical equipment and related materials passed 7 trillion won (US$5.7 billion) in 2019 on solid demand for dental treatment products, data showed Wednesday.

 

About 7.3 trillion won worth of medical equipment and materials were produced in the country last year, up 11.8 percent from a year earlier, according to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.

 

The sector's annualized growth rate far outpaced the 2 percent increase in the country's gross domestic product for the year.

 

Dental implant products accounted for the largest share at some 1.4 trillion won, followed by ultrasound diagnostic machines and dermal fillers used in various cosmetic treatments.

 

식약처에 따르면, 2019년 국내 의료기기 생산실적이 7조 2794억원으로 전년 대비 11.8%나 증가했다고 한다. 지난 의료기기 분야 연평균 성장률도 10.3%에 이르렀다. 

 

 의료기기 생산 품목을 살펴보면 치과용임플란트가 1조3621억으로 3년 연속 부동의 1위를 지켰다. 식약처는 이를 "인구 고령화와 건강보험 적용 확대에 따른 것으로 분석된다"고 설명했다. 이어 범용초음파영상진단장치 4706억, 성형용 필러 2435억 순으로, 생산 상위 10개 품목이 전체의 41.1%(2조 9953억)를 차지했다. 또한 전년대비 생산액 증가율이 가장 높은 품목은 치과용전산화단층촬영장치와 치과용임플란트로 각각 75.3% 26.9%의 증가율을 보였다.

 

고령화 및 성형 관련 의료기기 품목의 수출 증가도 두드러졌다. 범용초음파영상진단장치가 5615억으로 3년 연속 1위를 기록했고, 다음으로 치과용임플란트(3640억), 성형용 필러(2549억) 순이었다. 수출액 증가율에서는 치과용임플란트(33.9%)가 1위에 올랐는데 중국, 독일, 루마니아로 수출이 늘어난 영향이 컸다.
